One afternoon, when all the family was home, Churro got mad at his brothers. They all got in a fight, and Churro could not take on both of his brothers at once, so he ran out the backdoor and kept running blindly. He ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and ran until his feet ached and he no longer recognized his surroundings. It was arctic cold and he had only his blue jacket to keep him warm.
He had never felt an arctic cold before. The family had emigrated from the Dominican Republic where it was always warm and sometimes truly hot! So being cold was a true adventure. Even if it was an uncomfortable adventure. There was no store where he could buy a heavy jacket to make his body warm.
Suddenly Churro saw a store window and felt joyful! Maybe there was a jacket! If there could be a store window, surely there could be a jacket inside!
Churro walked up to the window and said a little prayer,
"Dear God, please let there be a jacket to make me warm."
Churro was able to enter the store and suddenly he saw another boy, his own age.
"Where do you come from?", asked Churro the boy. "Your imagination", answered the boy.
"Can my imagination make a warm jacket?", asked Churro.
"It can, if you want it to", answered the boy.
"Are you cold, too?", asked Churro.
The boy said, "Yes, I am. I am a lot like you. We can be friends in this lonely place!"
"Yes! Yes! Let's be friends!"
"And then we will have our friendship to warm us!"
"I like that", said Churro.
And so they became friends and warmed each other and talked and laughed. And neither one was cold anymore.
The end.
